Her Royal Highness's Traditional Yuletide Musical Celebration Pays Tribute to Community Volunteers
Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her yearly festive musical service at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.
The large audience will listen to a mix of carols, music and readings from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Focusing on Compassion and Love
The theme of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.
Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the carol service.
Carefully Paced Reappearance
The royal has been undertaking her own gradual return to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".
Performance and Potential
Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians supported by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.
Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who plays the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the charity, with awards contributing to musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in tonight's service.
"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.
A Family Affair
Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many notable figures," she said.
Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.
That will encompass young Saphia Turner, nine, recipient of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to raise money for community pantries.
Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment
The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.
Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by television on December 24th.
